Gabriella Day is an artist based in London using painting, photography, film and performance as acts of collage. She is interested in paper’s potential and uses photocopies, scraps, diary entries and studio detritus to create an ‘activated ground’, embedding the subjectivity into the surface. The work is then transformed through various mediums with the hope of finding forms that resist the artist’s decision-making.

Her paintings are often built up from individual pieces of paper that then take on a monumental scale. Originally created as stages for poetry readings in Glasgow, means the works have a feeling of holding a performance with or without the reader. Her practice is absentmindedly a sustainable one as she is mostly working with materials that are nearby and re-working old pieces as necessity and make-shift and important markers of intention in her practice.

Gabriella graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2020 and is currently based in London completing her MFA at Slade School of Fine Art. She co-founded Boardroom Committee Room, an artist-run gallery based in Glasgow. Gabriella is the in-house artist for WaterWings Press where she creates large-scale paintings that act as backdrops for readings. In July 2025, Gabriella completed a residency at ShapeeroMurray, Glasgow.
